The First Presidency is pleased to announce that effective immediately, young women who choose to serve a full-time mission may begin their service at age 18 following graduation from high school or its equivalent.
While the Lord asks every worthy, able young man as part of his priesthood responsibility to prepare for and serve a mission, we reiterate that missionary service remains an optional opportunity for young women. We recognize that for those young women who desire to serve a full-time mission, the choice of age to begin service will not be the same for everyone.
We extend our love to the youth of the Church and commend them for their faithfulness.
Elder Gérald Caussé is the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Christ Child is a touching tribute to our Savior Jesus Christ through a cinematic reenactment of the nativity scene. It’s part of Light the World—a worldwide effort to share Jesus Christ’s light and love with everyone during the Christmas season. Each year, we invite people around the world to join us in showing kindness, doing acts of service for others, worshipping Jesus Christ, and raising millions of dollars for nonprofits by donating through the Giving Machines.
This year we’re making it simple by inviting people to “add a little light” to their Christmas traditions. Baking Christmas cookies? Bring some to a neighbor! Shopping for Christmas gifts? Give the gift of life at a blood drive! It’s all about celebrating Jesus Christ by following His example of light and love.
